Sam's First Performance

Today I attended my first ever kiddie concert. OK, so some of the kids didn't sing too much, and some (all) of the solos were a bit off key, but the kids had a blast and so did I. Carl stood on a chair shooting video along with several other dads of these prodigies (one little girl I know caught my attention to warn me that people were standing on chairs and it wasn't safe). Before our chip filled up (which it did), I am thrilled that he caught the part where Sam whispered "He wrote Hallelujah. From the Messiah. It goes like this." and 16 3&4 year olds burst into the Hallelujah Chorus. Handel would be sooo proud.

We had one girl in the class who had stage fright and wasn't at the performance.  I was sent to round her up (I help out most weeks, so I know all the kids).  I asked her teacher where she was, and the teacher said she was at music.  Yikes!  We found her hiding in a corner of the classroom, laying low.  When I told the child everyone was looking for her at the music performance, this child looked me in the eye and said, "I'm not in music."  When I reminded her that I see her EVERY MONDAY in class, she looked a little nervous, but held her ground.  "I quit".  Nice try, but needless to say, she was up front and center, elf hat on head, in time for her moment in the sun.  She held up her little composer placard and announced, "Another composer we learned about was Handel."  Just call me the enforcer.
