Fourth of July

Had a great 4th! Auntie Caroline came in town, and frankly we were all pretty lazy. We didn't try to push the girls to the symphony, parade, OR fireworks this year, and I think they appreciated it.

We blew it when we tried to do a few small fireworks at home. Dad started out by igniting a whole pack of firecrackers, making both girls cry and forcing us to revert to a smoke bomb and sparkler show through the family room window.

The Performance

A Skeptical Audience
We did have a great time just hanging out, though - which I guess is the important thing.

A dear friend of mine who'd moved away came by with her three sons, bringing to my attention the differences in play styles between boys and girls.  Boys + Sand + Water = Mud.  Everywhere.  Lots.  We had a blast.  When they left, Sam looked up at me and said, "That was different fun."  My sister in law picked up a bubble gun, aimed it at me, then said, "This one just goes "Crunch" now."

Good fun.  I'm sad I didn't get any pictures.  I think I'm glad my camera was safely inside, though.
