Meet Suzy, Who Was Almost Our Dog

In one of the oddest developments yet in our parenting adventure, I found myself trying to talk my children into a dog this week.  The foster mom let us "borrow" the dog shown above for a couple of days.  Our hope was that the kids would get used to her and hopefully come to love her.

Look at that face.  Would you think any child could resist?  Ally succumbed after a day and a half, but Sam must have a heart of kryptonite.

Suzy charmed my husband, who is NOT a dog person.  The nanny may cry when she leaves.  But Sam can't wait for her to go.  Truly a shame.  I was looking for a dog who could sleep in Sam's room and alert me if she had a seizure in the night.  I barely sleep these days, for fear she'll have a seizure and choke in her sleep.  I was earnestly hoping this dog was the answer to my sleepless nights, but apparently not.

I am printing this post and putting it on my wall.  When the kids finally ask for a pet, I can point at it and say, "That was your chance."

Anyone know where I can get a seizure alert gerbil?

  1. Sorry it did not work out, cute face, and lots of love to give. However as a person who has trained service animals not all will alert in the instance of a medical need, takes a special pup and the bond has to be there between the person and the dog for it to work. Best wishes and try to get some rest, know that your Minnesota family thinks of you and your family often.
